The MA Counseling Program focuses on combining education, research, and hands-on involvement in schools, rehabilitation centers, behavioral health facilities, and other community environments across southern Arizona. This program equips graduates to develop, execute, and assess comprehensive counseling initiatives in rehabilitation, behavioral health, and school settings. Created with guidance from a community-based advisory board of counseling professionals, the curriculum addresses the demands of clinical mental health and rehabilitation services nationwide while specifically catering to Arizona's unique requirements. Graduates gain proficiency in all facets of counseling. Embracing the scholar-practitioner approach, students engage with every dimension of professional counseling practice. The program establishes a strong grounding in counseling techniques, theory, research, and application, fulfilling the educational prerequisites for national Certified Rehabilitation Counselor certification and Arizona's Licensed Professional Counselor credential (LPCCMHC Specialization). Graduates are prepared to assist individuals facing diverse challenges throughout their lives, employing strength-based and wellness approaches in both public (e.g., government) and private behavioral health environments. As clinical mental health professionals, graduates will partner with clients experiencing emotional, behavioral, or psychological difficulties, working alongside other service providers to help them attain personal, vocational, and career objectives in the most inclusive settings possible.
