Thousands of languages exist across the globe. By studying linguistics, you can explore the foundation of all languages: human interaction and expression. This field examines language's essence and communicative functions, focusing on how people acquire language and how it shapes human interaction and worldview. In the Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics with a Linguistics and Languages concentration, students gain insight into language structure—including phonology, morphology, and syntax—both universally and in specific tongues. The program also explores linguistic diversity and the innate linguistic understanding all humans share. Distinguished faculty features legendary linguist Noam Chomsky alongside specialists in language preservation, particularly for Indigenous American languages.
