Trains graduate-level K-12 special education teachers with focused instruction in disability studies, evaluation methods, intervention techniques, legal regulations, and program execution - including creating compliant IDEA documentation. Students will achieve proficiency in all Council for Exceptional Children teaching standards: understanding student development and learning differences, creating effective learning environments, mastering curriculum content, conducting assessments, designing instructional plans, maintaining professional ethics, and fostering collaboration. This program equips current Alaska-certified teachers or bachelor's degree holders with prerequisite qualifications to specialize in special education. Graduates will become K-12 special educators capable of addressing state and national educational challenges competently. Candidates complete progressively structured field experiences across all age groups, ability levels, and learning needs, with emphasis on collaborative teaching opportunities.
