Fisheries graduate students enroll in courses and conduct research across a broad spectrum of fisheries-related subjects. The program excels in quantitative science, fisheries management and human aspects, biological and ecological studies, and seafood technology. While primarily located in Juneau, Fairbanks, or Kodiak, most coursework is delivered via video to various Alaskan communities. Historically, Juneau focuses on marine ecosystems, Fairbanks on freshwater systems, and Kodiak on seafood science, yet students at all sites pursue diverse research projects. Each location boasts state-of-the-art labs, access to unspoiled natural habitats and thriving fisheries, plus robust ties to government agency researchers, fisheries managers, and stakeholders in commercial, recreational, and subsistence fishing sectors.
