The Native Art Program provides both bachelor's and master's degrees focused on Indigenous art studio work. UAF stands alone in Alaska as the sole institution granting a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Native Art, and is among just a handful nationwide offering a Master of Fine Arts in this field. The studio features traditional and modern carving equipment. Students can specialize in various mediums like wood, ivory, stone, and bone carving, along with woodblock printing, skin sewing, beadwork, basketry, and mixed media. Each semester, introductory through advanced Native Art Studio courses serve about sixty students, with a significant portion being Alaska Native.

Qualification Requirements
Complete a B.F.A. or B.A. in art from a university other than UAF (or from UAF with special permission from the Art Department faculty), or complete one consecutive year of classes from an accredited M.F.A. program other than UAF. In cases where an exceptional portfolio is submitted, students with another undergraduate degree will be accepted provisionally and with the condition that they make up any deficiencies as determined by their graduate committee.
In general, applicants may be admitted to a graduate program if they have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with at least a 3.0 (B) cumulative undergraduate GPA and a 3.0 (B) GPA in their major. The Office of Admissions requires official transcripts of all college-level coursework. To be considered official, transcripts must arrive in sealed envelopes or by a secure electronic service from each institution attended. IELTS score of 6.5, TOEFL IBT score of 79.
