The University of Alaska Fairbanks' geophysics program maintains strong ties to the Geophysical Institute, offering an ideal setting for exploring diverse geophysical occurrences. Learners can pursue a broad geophysics degree or specialize by selecting one of three focused tracks.

Graduates will demonstrate competency in:

solving geophysical challenges by applying conservation laws of energy, mass, and momentum through physical and mathematical frameworks, especially utilizing mathematical tools like linear algebra, vector calculus, and partial differential equations,
interpreting the physical mechanisms responsible for Earth's large-scale characteristics, such as plate tectonics and gravitational/magnetic fields,
evaluating typical geophysical issues while comparing the strengths and limitations of different theoretical, modeling, and observational solution methods, including recognizing fundamental assumptions behind each approach,
formulating precise scientific inquiries and employing contemporary computational strategies and measurement techniques required for research execution,
disseminating findings through peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, and presentations at domestic and international conferences, honing communication abilities via ongoing faculty guidance.
