The rural human services initiative aims to cultivate resilient individuals, families, and communities among Alaska Native populations. This RHS program offers foundational training for aspiring village-based helpers and healers entering public, private, or volunteer human service roles. Its curriculum deeply integrates Indigenous health wisdom while embracing multicultural perspectives that honor and expand upon native values. This specialized certificate program concentrates on behavioral health services in rural settings, with many course credits recognized by both the Alaska Division of Behavioral Health and the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium for professional certification. The program enhances qualifications for existing professionals in fields like healthcare, social services, corrections, and education seeking behavioral health specialization. Delivered through intensive monthly week-long sessions, the RHS program follows a two-year cohort model.
