The Native Art Program provides both bachelor's and master's degree options in Indigenous art studio studies. UAF stands alone in Alaska as the sole institution granting a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Native Art, and remains among the handful of U.S. universities offering a Master of Fine Arts in this field. The studio space features traditional and modern carving equipment. Students can specialize in various mediums including wood, ivory, stone and bone carving, along with woodblock printing, skin sewing, beadwork, basketry, and mixed media. Each semester, introductory through advanced Native Art Studio courses are available to about sixty enrolled students, a significant portion being Alaska Native individuals.
