The UAF Metalsmithing program provides both BFA and MFA degrees in Metalsmithing. Introductory jewelry and metalworking studio classes are available at three progressive levels. Novice students start with shaping flat nonferrous sheets and wires, while intermediate learners focus on crafting tools, casting techniques, and cold joining methods. Advanced pupils master hammering, thermal treatments, chemical processes, and specialized equipment. The curriculum fosters analytical approaches to creating practical and artistic pieces, with emphasis on overcoming challenges during project execution. Participants are motivated to refine their artistic vision and craftsmanship by exploring innovative designs and material applications.

Qualification Requirements

Have a high school diploma, and, Pass the 16-credit high school core curriculum with at least a 2.5, and ,Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5. Submit certified official secondary school and/or university transcripts and English translations. It is required that official transcripts of all high school and/or college-level coursework be signed and sealed by a registration official of the institution(s) attended. IELTS score of 6.5, TOEFL IBT score of 79.
