The Department of Biological Sciences at UAH is dedicated to cultivating exceptional students by providing training, mentorship, and support to help them achieve their highest potential as scientific professionals and future leaders. Alumni have pursued rewarding careers across various sectors, including academic institutions, government agencies, and private industry.
Graduate studies are customized to each student's needs, combining traditional classroom instruction with hands-on laboratory work, interactive discussions, specialized seminars, and field research opportunities.
The M.S. Graduate Program in Biological Sciences provides three specialized study paths focusing on areas such as cellular biology, genetics, genomics, molecular biology, microbiology, physiology, ecology, and evolutionary biology. Candidates must fulfill a 33-credit coursework requirement, develop a research proposal, and produce a Master's report under faculty supervision. Plan II students enjoy flexible course selection without mandatory classes. The final report typically consists of a comprehensive literature review on a topic approved by the advisor, presented privately to the evaluation committee rather than publicly.
