The optics and photonics field is growing quickly, with uses in self-driving cars, computer vision systems, advanced solar technology, and improved display technologies. Electrical engineering plays a crucial role in all these areas. By specializing in optics and photonics within electrical engineering, students can prepare for rewarding careers in these dynamic industries.
For the first three years, students in this concentration follow the same curriculum as standard electrical engineering majors. During their final year, they complete two mandatory optics courses and choose two electives. We strongly recommend that seniors undertake a design project focused on electro-optics.
The Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with an Optics and Photonics Technology concentration offers specialized education in optical systems and devices, preparing graduates for work in telecom, optical materials, sensor development, satellite technology, and medical imaging applications.
