The Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with a Language and Culture specialization integrates core elementary education coursework with specialized classes and practical experiences designed to prepare educators for working with English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students. Graduates qualify for ALSDE Class B Teaching Certification in Elementary Education (K-6) and gain the foundational knowledge to pursue ESOL certification after acquiring two years of teaching experience and passing necessary examinations.
Our Curriculum and Instruction Department partners with the College of Arts, Humanities, & Social Sciences, the College of Science, and area schools to deliver undergraduate teacher training programs. These programs blend comprehensive liberal arts education with professional studies featuring content-focused coursework and varied field experiences woven throughout the curriculum.
Multiple graduate certification pathways are available. The Master of Education program serves currently certified teachers pursuing advanced certification, while the Master of Arts in Teaching caters to those seeking initial certification. Additionally, students can choose to earn a graduate certificate specializing in Autism Spectrum Disorders.
