For physicians to accurately diagnose and treat medical conditions, they occasionally utilize radioactive substances. However, this requires specialized professionals to ensure safety for both patients and healthcare workers. Our program offers the advanced training needed to handle radionuclides and qualify as an entry-level technologist.
Saying we have extensive experience would be an understatement. We hold the distinction of being the first nuclear medicine technology program in the U.S. to achieve master's entry-level accreditation, and we remain Alabama's sole program of this caliber. Our experienced faculty delivers comprehensive education through both classroom instruction and clinical training. You'll study essential subjects including medical radiation physics, radiation detection equipment, pharmacology, anatomy, and physiology. Hands-on clinical rotations will provide valuable practice in radiopharmacy, in vivo techniques, instrumentation quality assurance, and practical radiation safety protocols. Additionally, you'll learn to use cutting-edge molecular imaging technology employed by physicians for disease diagnosis, staging, and treatment. To enhance your career readiness, we offer professional development courses and research opportunities. This program effectively prepares students for certification examinations administered by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board.
