Earning a PhD in Applied Developmental Psychology equips you to perform empirical studies that enhance people's lives. This program teaches you to apply technical expertise in practical situations, provides foundational training for classroom instruction and research dissemination, and offers insights into creating and executing programs and interventions.
Our students adopt a life course perspective to understand human development from infancy through old age and learn to apply these principles across specialized research environments. Research opportunities span three key domains: child and adolescent development (including autism spectrum disorders, parental and peer influences, pediatric psychology), adulthood (covering obesity, physical activity, health equity), and aging (focusing on cognition, Alzheimer's Disease, caregiver support, successful aging). These competencies and findings can pave the way for careers in psychology departments, medical institutions, nonprofits, government bodies, or other research and teaching-oriented roles.
