This expertise is proven through completing advanced coursework (including both structured and independent learning) and passing comprehensive examinations. The contribution involves conducting autonomous, novel research and documenting findings in a dissertation.
Biology Ph.D. candidates can focus their research across various biological scales, with specializations available in ecophysiology, cellular/molecular biology, endocrinology, aquatic organism ecology, or human disease models.
Achieving candidacy requires passing written and oral comprehensive exams. Students must also deliver a public departmental seminar during their dissertation defense. The dissertation must present and analyze findings from original experimental research.
