UAB stands alone as the sole U.S. university offering an undergraduate program in cancer biology, providing students with early preparation for careers in research, treatment, and related fields.
This unique degree program was developed through collaboration between top educators from the College of Arts and Sciences' Chemistry Department and the UAB Heersink School of Medicine's Cell, Developmental, and Integrative Biology Department. The coursework delivers an in-depth grasp of cancer cell biology and behavior - knowledge typically only available at the graduate level. With UAB's O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center being Alabama's sole National Cancer Institute-designated facility, students benefit from connections to national experts in both treatment and research. Graduates will gain expertise in chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, gene therapy, and other critical areas. We aim to position students advantageously for careers spanning research, clinical practice, healthcare, and beyond.
