During a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) program, students enroll in advanced courses and may collaborate with faculty advisors on research projects, witnessing firsthand how this work drives significant engineering advancements and benefits society. The Mechanical Engineering Department boasts cutting-edge computational and experimental resources, supporting active research initiatives across three key disciplines: Dynamic Systems & Control (DSC), ThermoFluids Science (TFS), and Materials Processing & Manufacturing (MPM). Faculty members instruct graduate courses and pursue interdisciplinary research in areas such as automotive technology, robotics and human-machine interaction, automation and mechatronics, energy efficiency in buildings, engine design, manufacturing processes, 3D printing, and materials science. These specialized courses, combined with core graduate curriculum, form the basis for completing an MSME.
Alongside traditional on-campus thesis and non-thesis options, the department offers a non-thesis distance learning program available to U.S. residents and military personnel stationed overseas. Details about the online MSME can be found on both the department's website and the UA Online Degree Program portal. Distance learners can achieve their academic goals with minimal impact on their careers or personal commitments through this flexible educational pathway.
