The field of Applied Linguistics and TESOL offers dynamic global opportunities for post-graduate studies. For those passionate about languages and cultural exploration, this discipline presents exciting possibilities
UA's TESOL master's program equips graduates for diverse academic and professional paths. Our alumni have advanced to doctoral studies in Linguistics, Rhetoric and Composition, and History, while others teach at educational institutions worldwide. Our rigorous curriculum and practical teaching opportunities develop essential expertise, cultural competence, and instructional abilities for career success.
The master's program features two distinct degree pathways:
Plan I (Thesis): Candidates can complete a thesis with faculty supervision. Thesis students enroll in 6 thesis research credit hours (EN 599) during their second year.
Plan II (Non-Thesis): Non-thesis candidates must pass a comprehensive exam near program completion. Administered annually in late February, this assessment evaluates core subjects like second language acquisition, linguistics, and teaching methodologies.
