The Department of Journalism and Creative Media provides a Master of Arts program specializing in Journalism & Media Studies. Students collaborate with faculty committed to upholding journalistic integrity, mass communication principles, and academic research. The program features three distinct study paths:
For those pursuing specialized expertise in journalism or media studies subfields—such as mass communication history, media law, cultural communication, or communication theory—Plan I (detailed later) is recommended. This path often leads to doctoral studies, though experienced journalists may teach without a PhD.
Aspiring media professionals focusing on writing, editing, visual journalism, broadcast news, or digital media can develop both practical skills and theoretical understanding through Plan II (outlined below), which emphasizes critical analysis and problem-solving.
Distance learners can participate in our online journalism and media studies curriculum, perfect for career changers, news industry entrants, or future journalism educators seeking flexible graduate-level education.

Each international applicant must hold the equivalent of a U.S. four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited institution to be eligible for graduate admission. While individual departments may have more stringent requirements, bachelor degrees from Bologna Accord certified institutions are considered to meet this criterion. We do also consider Indian three-year degrees to be equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree.
