The Department provides PhD programs in Literature, featuring a dedicated concentration in Renaissance Studies, along with Composition and Rhetoric.
Faculty members guide graduate students through every phase of their academic journey, from initial coursework to teaching roles, examinations, and ultimately completing doctoral dissertations.
Graduate students in our Department benefit from both immersive learning experiences and structured teaching opportunities with ongoing support. First-year literature students typically co-teach with faculty, facilitating discussions for larger lecture-based courses. Second-year students gain hands-on experience by instructing composition classes. Advanced PhD candidates may later teach literature surveys and even develop their own specialized courses.
Through rigorous academic training, teaching preparation, and focused career support, our program equips graduates for successful careers in education, research, publishing, and editorial work.
