The secondary education curriculum provides outstanding professional training that equips future educators to become thoughtful decision-makers, skilled researchers, and effective guides for student learning. This program culminates in a Bachelor of Science in Education degree and qualifies graduates for Alabama's Class B certification (grades 6-12) in various disciplines including English, foreign languages (French, German, Latin, Spanish), mathematics, general science (with biology, chemistry, or physics specialization), and general social science. While most teaching internships occur in Tuscaloosa and nearby regions, participants can also gain international experience through the COST program, with placements available in England, Ireland, South Africa, and other countries. The faculty actively encourages student participation in academic pursuits like research projects, conference presentations, and collaborative publications. Those enrolled in secondary education typically aspire to teach at middle or high school levels.
