The Family Financial Planning and Counseling concentration equips students with expertise for careers in financial planning and related fields. Financial advisors assist clients across various financial areas: setting objectives, managing cash flow, tax strategies, retirement planning, education funding, business considerations, estate arrangements, and insurance coverage. Financial counselors additionally provide guidance focused on enhancing financial literacy and applying sound money management practices, including debt reduction, emergency savings, payment negotiations, budgeting, and more.
This concentration's curriculum meets the educational prerequisites for the CFP certification exam, which leads to the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER designation registered with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. The CFP Board owns the trademarks CFP, Certified Financial Planner, and the CFP (with flame logo), awarded to professionals who fulfill initial and continuing certification criteria. The University of Alabama does not authorize individuals to use these CFP certification marks. The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. exclusively grants CFP certification to candidates who, beyond completing an approved educational program like this one, satisfy ethical standards, practical experience, and examination prerequisites.
