The UA ceramics program equips students with the technical abilities needed to cultivate their distinct aesthetic sensibility while participating in the critical dialogue of modern ceramic art.
The undergraduate ceramics curriculum provides BA and BFA degrees and aims to foster an equilibrium between material exploration and intellectual growth. Introductory courses cover both hand-building and wheel-throwing methods through well-designed, content-focused projects. Intermediate and advanced classes include slip-casting, mold creation, glaze formulation, kiln operation, and digital techniques. Students are motivated to experiment with the medium and investigate novel approaches detailed in preliminary research proposals. UA's interdisciplinary art program facilitates cross-disciplinary exchange, encouraging ceramics students to examine diverse materials that complement and advance their ceramic investigations.
