History majors delve into the examination of individuals, organizations, and civilizations from bygone eras. Understanding our past is intrinsically linked to comprehending the present, equipping students with essential analytical tools to navigate contemporary challenges, discussions, and inquiries. Additionally, historical studies cultivate practical abilities—critical thinking, persuasive communication, effective writing, among others—that foster professional achievement across diverse fields.
Our History Department provides numerous undergraduate research possibilities, featuring a culminating research seminar. Students can participate in public history seminars and internships, join the Peer Mentors leadership initiative, enroll in our UA at Oxford study-abroad opportunity, and apply for various scholarships. The department also hosts an inclusive History Club and maintains a Phi Alpha Theta chapter, the prestigious national history honor society.
