For generations, the exploration of Ancient Greek (a key component of Classical studies alongside Latin and Ancient Civilization) has formed the cornerstone of a comprehensive liberal arts education. Greek thinkers—including philosophers, playwrights, poets, lawmakers, chroniclers, cartographers, researchers, doctors, naturalists, and mathematicians—laid the groundwork for numerous principles and concepts that underpin Western thought today. Remarkably refined concepts of fairness, equity, democratic governance, reciprocal esteem, and liberty were forged amidst hardship and the quest for existence, ultimately becoming our cultural legacy.
In Classical studies, we examine this heritage through surviving texts and artifacts. The Greek specialization primarily highlights Greek achievements, with particular attention to mastering classical Greek writings and New Testament texts spanning from 800 BCE to the dawn of Christianity.
