In 1986, Congress founded the Center for Constitutional Law (CCL) at The University of Akron as one of four specialized national centers focused on constitutional legal research. To support this initiative, Akron Law established the John F. Seiberling Chair of Constitutional Law. The Center has welcomed distinguished visitors including U.S. Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O'Connor and Arthur Goldberg. It promotes academic research, community education, and student involvement in contemporary constitutional matters.
Constitutional Law examines the U.S. Constitution's framework, including protections for civil liberties and the distribution of governmental authority. Akron Law provides a Certificate of Study in Constitutional Law, enabling students to focus their elective coursework in this discipline.
