The metals program at the Mary Schiller Myers School of Art integrates artistic theory, craft traditions, modern perspectives, and individual inspiration with diverse metalworking techniques. Learners hone their abilities while designing functional items, artistic pieces, jewelry, and metal sculptures. Jewelry and Metalsmithing students utilize both ferrous and nonferrous metals with specialized equipment including a complete anodizing setup, personal soldering stations, various forming tools, electroforming devices, casting equipment, enameling ovens, sandblasters, and shaping presses.
The B.F.A. in Jewelry and Metalsmithing opens doors to numerous creative professions in jewelry creation, artifact preservation, or sculptural arts - ranging from independent artistry to educational, museum, or retail gallery positions. The program strongly supports experiential learning through cooperative education and internship opportunities.
