The Fellowship program offers hands-on experience in sleep medicine diagnostics and clinical evaluations, with a focus on dental sleep medicine. Participants will learn about oral appliance design principles, proper selection, fitting procedures, adjustments, and how to recognize and address both short-term and long-term side effects of oral appliance therapy.
The program emphasizes a team-based approach, working closely with sleep specialists to evaluate sleep apnea patients for oral appliance suitability. This involves analyzing sleep disorder diagnoses, assessing obstructive sleep apnea severity, and considering anatomical factors.
Fellows will actively engage in patient evaluations, treatment sessions, and follow-up care. Through these experiences, they'll develop skills in interpreting sleep study results, choosing and customizing dental devices for sleep-disordered breathing, learning about portable sleep monitor applications during appliance adjustments, and recognizing the constraints and possible issues associated with dental sleep solutions.
