Students pursuing a Foreign Languages degree with a focus on French Education can seek certification to teach French in Maryland after completing their studies. Alongside fulfilling Core Curriculum and Department of Secondary and Middle School Education requirements, candidates must earn 30 credit hours. Prospective teachers should consult with the Department of Secondary and Middle School Education regarding enrollment in the Teacher Education Program.
Those opting out of full education requirements must choose and fulfill an alternative concentration/track within their major to qualify for graduation.
Teacher Education Program participants must complete Advanced Grammar and Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages prior to their internship. Additionally, candidates must pass both the Oral Proficiency Interview and Writing Proficiency Test, attaining at least an Advanced Low rating on the oral examination.
