We aim to equip students to become real estate industry leaders while tackling critical built environment issues of our time: sustainability, urban renewal, economic disparity, the transformation of physical retail spaces, and changing population trends. Our curriculum teaches students to consider economic, social, and environmental factors when working on commercial, industrial, institutional, mixed-use, and residential development projects. While Philadelphia serves as a primary case study location, we also examine national and global examples.
By emphasizing the four pillars of responsible real estate development—environmental stewardship, social responsibility, design innovation, and financial sustainability—students gain practical understanding of how development revitalizes neighborhoods and creates vibrant spaces for living, working, and recreation. The Philadelphia region becomes our hands-on classroom, where students explore projects ranging from individual structures to entire community districts.
Our faculty of seasoned professionals offers practical knowledge in sustainable development, land-use law, urban planning, and construction management. The program emphasizes teamwork through case studies, group assignments, field visits, and solving actual development challenges. At Jefferson, students develop valuable professional connections and resources that last throughout their careers.
