The Texas Tech Center for Biotechnology and Genomics oversees the Master of Science in Biotechnology program, which includes a bioinformatics specialization. Students can choose between two tracks: a research-intensive path (available as Life Sciences Research or Bioinformatics Research concentrations) or a one-year coursework-focused option. The research track spans two years (38 credits), with initial semesters dedicated to core and elective classes, followed by 9-12 months of research (potentially including advanced courses). Research requirements can be fulfilled through either: (1) producing an M.S. thesis based on faculty-supervised laboratory work, or (2) completing a non-thesis internship at campus, corporate, government, or nonprofit research facilities. Non-thesis candidates must pass a comprehensive exam in their final semester.
