The Master of Art Education (M.A.E.) program requires at least 36 graduate credit hours, including 12 credits in art education core classes, 9-12 credits in related art studies, 6-9 credits for a minor (which can be taken outside the department or within the School of Art), and a minimum of 6 thesis or project credits culminating in an art exhibition. The M.A.E. graduate advisor assesses applicants who satisfy the Graduate School's basic admission criteria. Prospective M.A.E. students need to provide an art portfolio and/or slides of their work, ideally including samples of student artwork, for review by the admissions committee. This committee then decides on program acceptance and may assign preparatory coursework. Teacher certification requires an extra 18 credit hours plus student teaching experience.
