Across the U.S., nearly all state licensing boards mandate completion of an accredited architecture degree program for licensure. The National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), the only organization approved to accredit architecture programs nationally, approves three degree types: Bachelor of Architecture, Master of Architecture, and Doctor of Architecture. Accreditation periods vary between 2, 3, or 8 years based on how thoroughly programs meet educational requirements.
Both Doctor and Master of Architecture programs may combine a pre-professional bachelor's degree with a professional graduate degree, forming a complete accredited education when completed consecutively. It's important to note that standalone pre-professional degrees don't qualify as accredited credentials.
