In collaboration with the graduate studies director, each certificate director will create and outline a customized study plan for every student. Credits completed for the certificate may be applied toward a graduate degree if students choose to continue their education. Graduate certificates are designed to fulfill the advanced educational requirements of working professionals. These programs consist of a structured curriculum offering specialized expertise in a particular field, forming a comprehensive knowledge foundation. Applicants to graduate certificate programs are admitted with a GCRT classification. All prerequisite coursework (including undergraduate classes) must be completed with the required foundational knowledge before enrolling in any graduate course. A bachelor's degree is mandatory to begin a graduate certificate program, with one exception: Texas Tech University undergraduates maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher who are within 12 credit hours of completing their bachelor's degree may start graduate coursework toward a certificate. However, the bachelor's degree must be conferred before the graduate certificate can be awarded.
