To earn a doctoral degree, students must complete at least 61 graduate semester hours beyond their bachelor's degree, not counting dissertation credits. All Ph.D. candidates must pass POLS 5381, POLS 5382 (or equivalent courses), and POLS 5383 with at least a B grade as foundational requirements. During preliminary examinations, additional language or methodological prerequisites may be assigned based on the student's specialization area. Applicants can enter the Ph.D. program directly without holding a master's degree.
The program mandates coursework in two primary disciplines and one secondary field. During qualifying exams, students will be assessed exclusively on their two chosen major fields, with no examination required for the minor concentration.
