The School of Theatre and Dance collaborates with art, music, and philosophy departments to offer an interdisciplinary PhD program in Fine Arts. The 15-hour core curriculum focuses on artistic interdisciplinarity, featuring four mandatory courses: a colloquium on disciplinary formation and interdisciplinary approaches, arts history studies, contemporary arts contexts, and philosophical aesthetics. Students complete their core requirements with an approved topics or aesthetics course. Theatre track students typically follow required coursework alongside customized studies tailored to their professional aspirations and skill sets. (Full degree details appear in the Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts catalog section.) Doctoral candidates must complete 18 graduate credit hours within a 12-month period to satisfy residency requirements.
