The Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education equips professionals to support children from birth through elementary school. With a focus on developmental psychology, the program builds expertise in understanding each child's unique needs within family, social, and educational environments. This curriculum aligns with Texas's current teacher certification standards and holds accreditation from both the State Board for Educator Certification and CAEP (Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation). Graduates qualify for EC-6 certification (early childhood to sixth grade). Prospective teachers should consult an academic advisor about potential updates to certification rules due to new legislation. Certification candidates must fulfill all requirements listed in the College of Education catalog section and pass the state-mandated TExES exam. The program features a comprehensive year-long student teaching experience during the final undergraduate year. Those pursuing teaching credentials should schedule an appointment with the department's undergraduate advisor.
