The Department of Classical & Modern Languages & Literatures focuses on advancing research that enhances humanities, language studies, and community engagement both locally and worldwide. Our learning environments—whether digital or in-person—serve as hubs for meaningful interaction, with professors committed to nurturing student development. We prepare learners to excel in their future professions by providing transformative education in linguistic and cultural studies. Across our institution and surrounding areas, we champion language diversity and multicultural understanding. The Department will advance cross-disciplinary cultural/literary scholarship and language acquisition research. Educators will continuously enhance their expertise to support varied student groups. We'll foster an environment of transparent communication and guidance that brings together instructors, staff, and learners. Distinctive experiential education will be offered through inclusive international programs and local immersive experiences. Collaborative initiatives with area K-12 institutions will address community requirements. Intercultural exchange will be strengthened through university-wide and community partnerships.

The Russian Language & Area Studies curriculum provides diverse coursework covering Russian linguistics, artistic works, societal norms, government systems, and historical developments. Students can pursue an interdisciplinary RLAS major or select between two minor options in Russian studies. This program equips participants for careers demanding expertise in Russian and CIS regions while preparing dedicated students for graduate-level work. Numerous approved international study programs are available for student participation.
