A Master of Arts (M.A.) in Theatre provides concentrations in historical-criticism and dramaturgical studies. This graduate program equips students for teaching roles in secondary schools or community colleges, pursuing doctoral studies, or building careers in professional or community theater. Texas State University's Department of Theatre and Dance delivers an intensive, hands-on Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) program focusing on directing and design. The M.F.A. curriculum trains students to become professional practitioners and creative leaders, while also preparing them for academic teaching positions.
The faculty members maintain active professional careers, directing and designing for prestigious venues worldwide - including Disney Parks, Broadway productions, Regional theaters, Shakespeare Festivals, and the Kennedy Center. baccalaureate degree (preferably a B.A. or B.F.A. in theatre) from a regionally accredited university (Non-U.S. degrees must be equivalent to a four-year U.S. Bachelor’s degree. In most cases, three-year degrees are not considered.
