Students pursuing a major can select from three distinct degree pathways. Those opting for the Consumer Affairs major with a focus on personal financial management will explore topics like personal finance decision-making, consumer protection laws, financial advising, the economic role of consumers, and will complete a minor. This concentration prepares graduates for roles in personal financial services, financial counseling, consumer advocacy, or government positions. The Family and Consumer Sciences concentration allows students to take interdisciplinary courses across all FCS disciplines while completing a minor. Career opportunities include business sectors, extension services, and community organizations. The teacher certification track, authorized by the Texas Education Agency, qualifies graduates to teach Family and Consumer Sciences in secondary education (grades 6-12). Please refer to the note below regarding background check requirements for this pathway.
The Family and Consumer Sciences Concentration provides a thorough curriculum covering key areas such as child development, nutrition, housing and finance, fashion and textiles, and consumer studies.
