The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Texas State University provides bachelor's degree programs designed to train and cultivate educators and instructional leaders. Each undergraduate pathway culminates in initial teaching credentials and incorporates extensive hands-on training in nearby schools before student teaching begins.
Upon earning their degree and passing mandatory certification tests, graduates may pursue EC-12 Special Education and EC-6 ESL Core Subjects teaching credentials. The EC-12 Special Education qualification allows instruction across elementary, middle, and high school environments in Texas. While this program emphasizes Special Education, All-Level Special Education candidates must also obtain EC-6 ESL Core Subjects certification, enabling them to teach in inclusive elementary classrooms or specialized middle/high school settings. Certified Texas educators with a bachelor's degree can expand their qualifications by passing supplementary certification exams.
