Mathematics has been explored for over four thousand years, forming a vast and intricate body of knowledge. This field remains a vibrant area of discovery, continually generating fresh concepts and compelling challenges. The depth of accumulated insights and ongoing breakthroughs extends far beyond theoretical math, influencing diverse fields such as finance, technology, engineering, science, and social studies.
Mathematical proficiency is an essential ability that touches every aspect of learning and is crucial for countless careers. Our department's goal is to develop analytical and problem-solving skills, equipping our majors and minors for professions requiring advanced mathematical expertise. We foster a distinguished academic environment for faculty and students in mathematics, math education, and related fields. Degree options include a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics, and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. Those pursuing a Mathematics major can also earn teaching certification for grades 7-12 by completing a dual major with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education.
Students enrolled in any Department of Mathematics program who want to minor in another department offering must complete 18 credit hours of math courses beyond their major requirements, with no overlapping credits. These additional courses must be selected from the elective options specified for the chosen minor.
