English Department students develop skills to craft content for a world that relies heavily on written language and visual communication. In our rapidly evolving digital age—particularly with the rise of AI—there's a growing need for visionary communicators who can motivate others through compelling words and imagery that spark fresh thinking and genuine engagement. Learners produce academic papers, business materials, creative works like poetry and scripts, as well as digital content for emerging platforms. The only boundary to what English students create is their creativity.
Our curriculum examines diverse materials—from ancient manuscripts to contemporary culture—using multiple analytical methods. English majors critically examine novels, speeches, technical manuals, films, and digital media while tackling profound questions about existence, purpose, and ethics. Whether exploring fantasy realms or western films, Shakespearean drama or viral tweets, our courses transport students across countless textual landscapes.
The English BA program offers comprehensive training in writing and textual analysis, covering literary works, visual media, and persuasive communication. Those focusing on Writing and Rhetoric pursue specialized studies in technical writing, professional editing, and niche areas like compassionate discourse, political messaging, or nature writing.
