The graduate programs in Chemical and Natural Gas Engineering aim to achieve the following goals.

To equip students for thriving careers and significant impacts in the chemical processing and petroleum sectors by teaching core principles alongside practical applications of contemporary engineering, enabling them to address both present and future industry challenges.
To ready students for advanced doctoral studies in petroleum/chemical or related fields.
To cultivate professional responsibility and societal awareness in students.
The Wayne H. King Department provides programs focusing on emerging interdisciplinary specialties alongside conventional Chemical and Natural Gas Engineering disciplines.

State-of-the-art engineering facilities house specialized labs featuring unit operations, process control, gas measurement, and drilling equipment. Advanced computing resources are also accessible.

The Master of Science degree offers two pathways: Plan I (thesis-based) and Plan II (non-thesis).

Plan I entails 24 credit hours of coursework (18 in the major field and 6 in a minor) along with a research thesis.
Plan II requires 36 credit hours, with 21-30 in the major field and 6-15 across one or two minor fields (minimum 6 credits per minor if selecting two). This path also includes a compact research project with accompanying report.

Full-time students typically complete Plan II within one calendar year (Fall, Spring, and Summer terms). Plan I may extend one or two additional semesters due to the variable timeline of thesis research.
