The program's curriculum covers classic newspaper journalism, feature article composition, media legislation, the evolution of journalism, layout design, and page composition. Students can also take classes in public relations and advertising through the journalism department. Modern journalism education now integrates conventional newspaper practices with digital platforms like social media, video production, and other web-based elements essential in our rapidly changing media landscape. Many alumni who worked at the South Texan (our student-operated newspaper) have gone on to achieve professional success at prominent state and national publications.
