The Psychology and Sociology Department focuses on delivering a well-rounded education that fosters personal growth and intellectual advancement by exploring individual behavior, social dynamics, and cultural understanding. Our programs specifically prepare students for careers as social scientists and professionals in fields like human development, gender and minority studies, family and child services, Mexican American cultural studies, borderland research, abnormal psychology, counseling, and criminology. Students gain hands-on experience through undergraduate research projects and service-learning initiatives. The department encourages innovative thinking and critical examination of issues affecting South Texas communities. We deliver high-quality teaching, research opportunities, and community engagement, aligning with the College of Arts and Sciences' academic objectives and the University's broader mission.
