Mechanical Engineering is a field that demands knowledge of mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, and energy, applying physics and mathematics to create mechanical systems. According to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), it is the engineering branch that benefits society by analyzing, designing, and manufacturing systems that transform energy into practical work. The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) program focuses on service, systems-based learning, and sustainability, integrating traditional mechanical engineering with emerging areas like unmanned aircraft systems, maritime sciences, and marine biology, which are particularly relevant to the Gulf Coast region.
The educational goals of this program are: Within one year of graduating from TAMU-CC, alumni will be employed in industries such as government, construction, or professional services as mechanical engineers, or will be enrolled in graduate programs in mechanical engineering or other fields like law, business, or medicine. Within five years of graduation, alumni will have progressed in their careers through promotions, leadership roles, awards, recognition as experts, professional engineering licensure, or achievements in entrepreneurship, product development, patents, and publications. They will also have enhanced their skills via continuing education or advanced degrees and contributed to the profession and society through research, collaborations, and professional or public service, including mentoring.
