The Geology Program's mission is to deliver comprehensive, process-focused education grounded in core scientific principles, equipping graduates for rewarding careers and continuous learning. This program caters to geology and environmental science majors, as well as students from other disciplines seeking to expand their understanding of Earth systems. Geoscience faculty offer majors a comprehensive foundation in geological processes while allowing specialization in specific areas, preparing students for advanced studies and careers across government, industry, and academia. Graduates will develop proficiency in scientific research, written communication, and public speaking, master key geological concepts, acquire practical field and lab skills, learn data analysis techniques and relevant computing applications, qualify for geology-related employment or graduate studies, and critically assess geology's societal impacts.
The General Geology pathway provides a broad geological education for majors and non-majors alike, while also offering focused study options for those pursuing advanced degrees or professional opportunities in various sectors.
