The Geology Program aims to deliver comprehensive, process-focused education grounded in core scientific principles, equipping graduates for rewarding careers and continuous learning. This program caters to geology and environmental science majors, as well as students from other disciplines seeking to expand their understanding of Earth sciences. Geoscience faculty members give majors a thorough introduction to geological processes while allowing specialization in specific areas, preparing them for advanced studies and careers in government, industry, or academia. Students will develop skills in scientific research, writing, and public speaking, gain mastery of key geological concepts, acquire hands-on field and lab techniques, learn data analysis and relevant computer applications, become qualified for geology-related employment or graduate studies, and critically assess geology's societal impacts.
The Energy Resources specialization provides engineering and geology training for hydrocarbon exploration, gas hydrate extraction, and renewable energy development including geothermal resources.
