Civil engineers manage construction projects, which involve planning, building, overseeing, and preserving road networks along with related infrastructure, buildings, airports, and systems for water purification, hydropower, and other applications. Given the diverse fields within civil engineering, many professionals opt to specialize in areas such as construction engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, geospatial surveying engineering, environmental engineering, water resources engineering, transportation engineering, or coastal engineering. The Civil Engineering program equips graduates to utilize mathematics up to differential equations, calculus-based physics, chemistry, and at least one other fundamental science; apply probability and statistics to manage uncertainties; analyze and resolve issues in civil engineering specialties; perform experiments in these areas and evaluate the data; design systems, components, or processes with sustainability in mind; understand project management, business, public policy, and leadership basics; and assess professional ethics concerns.
